Wurstkuche
Location: Downtown LA Art's District
Wurstkuche is a very popular spot in DTLA Art's District. Right outside of Little Toyko. If you go during lunch hours, there will normally be a line outside the door. It's a place to check out during the odd hours or the odd day. Some places in this city will have a line and I'll be like why? I don't understand. Some people may be like so what's so great about a sausage sandwich? My question is what is not great about it. It's a German style place that sells sausage sandwiches, fries, and beer. It's also so much more than that. If they just sold Bratwurst, I wouldn't be interested. They sell both normal and what they call exotic sausages. Andy and I both ordered off the exotic side. I had Pheasant with herbs de Provence (very french eh?) and Andy had Duck with Bacon and Jalapeno Peppers. On top of the sausage, you can order toppings like onions, peppers (sweet or spicy), and sauerkraut. They have twice dipped fries that come with an array of tipping sauces like Curry Ketchup, Chipotle aioli, or Blue cheese walnut with bacon (surprisingly good).
So how was it, the sausage sandwich was really good, I had it with sweet peppers and honey mustard. It's just a hot dog type of sandwich so if you are really hungry, you may want to order two or order fries for yourself instead of sharing. The fries are decent but not OMG. The dipping sauces add a nice twist to them. They have a good beer selection which Andy tested out and enjoyed. It's the kind of spot that you go to have a beer with your buddies or partner. It's laid back and has community seating both inside and outside.
